Description

The Justice Programme 2021–2027 of the European Commission promotes cooperation in civil and criminal matters within the EU, focusing primarily on training and education, non-discriminatory access to justice, and e-Justice. Its aim is to strengthen professionals such as judges, prosecutors, and other legal practitioners through training and the exchange of best practices to enhance their understanding of Union law. At the same time, digital tools and information campaigns are developed to make procedures more efficient and transparent. This interplay significantly contributes to the further development of a European legal area based on the rule of law, the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, as well as mutual trust and recognition—thereby sustainably reinforcing democracy and fundamental rights.

Eligible for funding are educational institutions, public bodies, associations, as well as national, regional, and local authorities in EU Member States, EEA countries, candidate and accession countries, and international organizations. Support is provided, among other things, for training activities for justice actors, the establishment and maintenance of European networks, analysis and monitoring activities, and the development of IT solutions for e-Justice. Specific funding amounts and selection criteria are defined in the annual work programmes. Combining this with other EU funding programmes is possible. In this way, the Justice Programme targets all actors in the administration of justice who wish to contribute to a reliable, fair, and modern justice system in Europe.
