Description

In the Hamburg district of Rissen, the children's and youth hospice Sternenbrücke offers holistic, palliative care for children, adolescents, and young adults up to 27 years of age with incurable, life-shortening illnesses. From the time of diagnosis, the young guests and their families are supported by an interdisciplinary team of nursing professionals, therapists, and psychosocial experts. In addition to medical and nursing care, the program also includes animal-assisted interventions, creative activities, and special education. Beyond death, Sternenbrücke supports families in their grieving process and creates a protected space with rituals, counseling services, and memorial ceremonies to collectively find new strength.

Eligible for funding are families with an incurably ill child, adolescent, or young adult up to 27 years old, whose admission to the children's and youth hospice Sternenbrücke is individually assessed. Applications are informal and ongoing, allowing needs to be evaluated at any time. The central evaluation criteria are medical urgency and the specific needs of the family. This grant supports both psychosocial care as well as material and personnel costs. Interested families can initiate an individual case assessment through the Kinder-Hospiz Sternenbrücke Foundation in Hamburg to receive tailored support services. The continuous funding aims to alleviate burdensome phases and enable valuable shared moments—so that no one has to walk the path alone.
