Description
The childcare allowance is a nationwide funding instrument provided by the AMS and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection. The aim of this income-dependent support is to facilitate the commencement or continuation of employment as well as participation in labor market policy-relevant measures. Applicants who have childcare responsibilities for a child under 15 years of age (or under 18 years in the case of a verified disability) receive a subsidy for expenses related to kindergarten and nursery fees, after-school care, as well as childminders or day fathers. The funding is particularly targeted at job seekers, re-entrants, and participants in AMS measures and contributes to sustainably strengthening the compatibility of family and work.
A prerequisite for funding is a prior assessment of the labor market policy relevance by the AMS as well as cohabitation with the child in the same household. The monthly gross income must not exceed 2,700 euros – including pensions, alimony, and other benefits. Within a project duration of six months, the program supports with up to 300 euros per month. Applications can be submitted continuously until the budget is exhausted, allowing applicants to respond flexibly to changing life situations. This funding offer makes a significant contribution to increasing the employment participation of parents and reducing unemployment in Austria.
