Description
As part of a nationwide funding project, a non-profit initiative analyzes the diverse impacts of digitalization on the everyday lives of children and adolescents. Funded is a grant program by the Digital Opportunities Foundation, which is exclusively open to non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public entities. The focus is on interdisciplinary thematic areas such as child and youth research, innovation, education, digital participation, as well as social and vocational training and further education. The goal is to develop protective measures based on thorough analyses, minimize risks, and create equitable access opportunities. Through collaboration with experts from science and practice, recommendations for action are developed that can be anchored at the national level and integrated into the continuing education of educational professionals.
A central funding objective is the conception and implementation of child and youth policy strategies that contribute to the realization of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in all areas of life. The project supports the Sofia Strategy of the Council of Europe and works closely with international bodies of the European Commission, the United Nations in the field of Internet governance, as well as ICANN. Within a duration of 123 months (January 2017 to March 2027), measures are developed to empower young people to actively exercise their rights and protect themselves. As primary beneficiaries, children and adolescents in Germany benefit equally alongside international expert bodies involved in the digital implementation of children's rights. Thus, the program makes a sustainable contribution to the safe and participatory design of the digital living environments of young people.
