Description
The program “Energy Saving in Households: Consultation and Appliance Replacement” of the Climate and Energy Fund (KLIEN) supports poverty-affected private households in Vienna with a 100% subsidy for needs-based energy-saving consultation and the free replacement of inefficient major appliances. A prerequisite is proof of primary residence in Austria as well as proof of poverty through ORF exemption, EAG cost exemption, telephone fee subsidy, heating cost subsidy, or housing allowance, or receipt of social assistance/compensatory allowance. As part of the consultation, a qualified energy consultant assesses the individual energy consumption directly on-site, explains practical saving measures, and recommends—if necessary—the switch to modern, energy-efficient household appliances. Funding covers a maximum of two old appliances (refrigerators and freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, electric stoves/ovens) including delivery, installation, training, and proper disposal. The administrative costs of the consultation (travel, consultation, documentation) are fully covered and handled directly through an authorized social counseling agency.
Interested poverty-affected households can submit applications continuously from September 1, 2025, as long as the budget of 15 million euros is not exhausted. For the application, a photo ID, registration certificate, date of birth, contact details, and proof of eligibility are required. Caritas Austria initiates initial and energy-saving consultations, while Kommunalkredit Public Consulting GmbH supports the funding administration. The aim of the measure is the long-term reduction of energy costs, increased resilience against price increases, and the fight against energy poverty. By replacing inefficient appliances and optimizing user behavior, the program contributes sustainably to climate protection and social relief for those affected.
