Climate-Adapted Forest Management

Climate-Adapted Forest Management supports private individuals, companies, and public institutions throughout Germany in implementing innovative, climate-resilient forest management measures. The program funds grants for projects that create sustainable forest structures and contribute to long-term adaptation to the consequences of global climate change. Eligible for funding are forest owners as well as businesses with usage rights to domestic forest areas. Applications can be submitted continuously, enabling an ongoing initiation of measures to improve water balance regulation, biodiversity, and storm safety. Through the combination of expert support, material cost subsidies, and investment grants, a comprehensive contribution is made to the preservation of healthy, adaptable forests.

Participants benefit from individually tailored advice provided by the Agency for Renewable Resources (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V.), the project sponsor on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. As the central contact point, the agency coordinates the funding process, verifies compliance with guidelines, and provides sample documentation for reporting and accounting. A prerequisite for funding is proof of ownership or usage rights of the forest areas in Germany as well as compliance with ecological criteria. The program is aimed at all those who wish to actively contribute to increasing forest functional security through targeted measures such as mixed stands, site-appropriate tree species selection, and soil protection. It thus offers a valuable opportunity to sustainably strengthen the forest as an important climate protector and habitat for flora and fauna.
