Purpose of Funding and Financial Framework
In Lower Austria, a subsidy is granted for the expenses of short-term care to provide temporary relief to persons in need of care in exceptional situations. The funding is provided as a one-time payment by the state and covers the actual costs of accommodation in recognized facilities. A maximum stay of up to six weeks per year can be claimed. Applications are processed at any time; processing under private sector administration guarantees an unbureaucratic procedure without any legal entitlement to the benefit.

Target Group and Application Requirements
The recipients of this funding measure are persons in need of care with their main residence in Lower Austria who receive care allowance, as well as care facilities approved by social authorities according to § 49 NÖ SHG. A prerequisite for approval, in addition to Austrian citizenship or an equivalent residence permit, is proof of income and receipt of care allowance. The required documents include a completed application for the short-term care subsidy, proof of income, and certification of care allowance receipt. Companies, non-profit organizations, and public institutions can apply for the funding as service providers and assert the claims of their clients.
