Description
The interdisciplinary conference format of the Daimler and Benz Foundation creates a protected space for open-ended reflection on scientifically and socially relevant issues. Scientists in leadership positions at German universities or non-profit non-university research institutions may submit an independent proposal for a topic at any time. Upon positive evaluation, up to 20 participants may be selected to develop new perspectives through one- to two-day discussions in the historic premises of the Carl-Benz-Haus in Ladenburg. The Foundation fully organizes the event in terms of funding and covers travel and accommodation costs (economy-class tickets, second-class train tickets, hotel bookings, catering) to allow focus on professional exchange. Fees for participants are not eligible for funding.
In the evaluation of applications, alignment with the Foundation’s statutory purpose, interdisciplinary orientation, as well as the quality and clarity of the exposé (maximum three DIN A4 pages plus references) are taken into account. Informal submissions are accepted without deadlines but require the applicant’s name, position, institution, address, and contact details, as well as a preliminary list of participants. The aim is to generate impulses for publications or further research projects through open dialogue while simultaneously strengthening networking across disciplines. This continuously open program promotes science, research, and innovation throughout Germany in accordance with the Foundation’s purpose.
