Ladenburg Horizons (German-African Research Collaborations)

The "Ladenburger Horizons" of the Daimler and Benz Foundation support bilateral research collaborations between German and African educational institutions in selected regions of Africa. Projects are funded for a period of 36 months with up to 300,000 euros, with the allocated funds primarily intended to benefit the African partners. The focus is on innovative initiatives in the fields of research & innovation as well as science, which make a sustainable contribution to strengthening local networks and global knowledge exchange. The initiative takes into account the growing scientific and political significance of Africa and deliberately sets impulses for the further development of joint research projects.

Eligible to apply are research institutions based in Germany that already have existing contacts with African partners or wish to establish such collaborations. The funding is particularly suitable for institutes planning interdisciplinary projects and actively involving African researchers in all project phases. The funding objective aims to establish long-term partnerships, support capacity building on site, and increase the international visibility of African research. The next call for proposals will start in autumn 2025; early project planning can significantly improve the chances of success. Interested institutions are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming deadline and submit innovative project ideas.
