Description

The TO HUUS Foundation promotes the placement of homeless or at-risk individuals into permanent housing in Hamburg through its program. Participants not only receive the opportunity to obtain their own apartment but are also intensively supported by trained volunteer housing guides. A central element is the five-hour rental license seminar, which imparts essential knowledge about rental agreements, house rules, energy and waste management, and concludes with a test and certificate. The funding initiative aims to enable sustainable integration and independent living by directly incorporating the learned content into the placement process and reducing barriers in the rental process. Funding is provided as a grant, and applications can be submitted continuously.

Funding is granted to private individuals who have their main residence in Hamburg, can present an identity card or valid residence permit, and submit an urgency certificate from the specialist office for housing emergencies. Families may include up to four persons and must have basic German language skills. Selection is based on meeting these eligibility criteria, the results of the rental license seminar, and the order on the waiting list. The project duration is twelve months, during which, in addition to apartment search, administrative and social support services are provided by the volunteer guides. Those affected, especially refugees, receive comprehensive support here to establish a permanent foothold in Hamburg and develop a stable housing perspective.
