Description

Within the framework of the 2ZERO partnership, the EU is funding large-scale demonstration projects for the integration of battery-electric heavy-duty trucks (HD BEV) with megawatt charging systems into long-haul logistics fleets. Consortia of at least three independent partners from at least four European countries are sought, including logistics and transport companies (also SMEs and microenterprises), charging infrastructure operators, and research institutions. The objective is to achieve average driving distances of ≥ 600 km over twelve months on four European corridors, in order to systematically identify technological, infrastructural, and operational barriers—such as battery degradation, weather constraints, or approval procedures. Special emphasis is placed on the interoperability of megawatt charging stations, digital tools with AI-supported data labs for fleet management, as well as synergies with existing charging infrastructure projects (CEF, Clean Corridors). A total of up to €34 million in funding per project is available (70% for profit-oriented, 100% for non-profit organizations).

Applications must be submitted by 14 April 2026 via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. Eligible costs include personnel, consumables, travel, equipment, infrastructure, and subcontracting services. Retroactive costs, real estate purchases, and debt refinancing are not eligible. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, emission reduction and market introduction potential, as well as the quality and efficiency of project implementation. Partners must register in the portal with a PIC and submit a consortium financing and milestone plan. Promising results are expected to provide recommendations for business models and regulations, establish best practices for cross-border zero-emission transport, and thus decisively advance the market readiness of emission-free long-haul logistics in Europe.
