Description
The "Reading Promotion" program of the state of Baden-Württemberg is aimed at educational institutions throughout Baden-Württemberg and supports innovative initiatives to increase students' motivation to read. Through a one-time grant, it promotes statewide literature events for Frederick Day – the popular literary reading festival around October 20 – as well as author readings throughout the entire school year. Central to the program is the cooperation with the Friedrich-Bödecker-Kreis, which connects German-speaking authors with schools and enables exciting encounters. The goal is to create vivid key experiences in which participants of all ages discover and deepen their fascination for stories and words.
Funding is provided to schools that plan and implement independent projects or events to promote reading. The funds can be used for organizing and conducting Frederick Day activities, inviting authors to classes, or digital readings and writing workshops. This offers teachers the opportunity to expand cultural education offerings and provide young people with diverse access to literature. The measure not only strengthens reading skills but also creativity and language awareness. Interested schools from Baden-Württemberg can submit applications directly to the responsible regional councils and thus contribute to sustainable enthusiasm for reading in their classes.
