Description
The award "Reading Artist of the Year" annually honors a private individual in Germany who, as an author of children’s and youth books, captivates young audiences with outstanding readings. It celebrates the ability to convey stories vividly and interactively, thereby inspiring children and adolescents to develop a lasting enthusiasm for reading. Submissions are accepted from authors of children’s and youth books whose presentations impress through quality, engaging content delivery, and active audience participation. The award ceremony takes place as part of the children’s and youth book festival "Stadt Land Buch" at the Frankfurt Literature House and recommends outstanding reading artists as reliable partners for bookstores, libraries, and schools.
The award is presented by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, a non-profit foundation that strengthens reading competence and motivation among children and young people. The jury of the Reading Promotion Interest Group continuously evaluates nominations and bases its decision on artistic performance, content brilliance, and interactive engagement. The goal is to provide bookstores, libraries, and schools with a quality-assured recommendation for exceptional readings, thereby further consolidating the role of the book as a leading medium in culture and education. The award not only promotes the visibility of German-language stories but also honors the artistic achievement of authors who shape young readers into active and enthusiastic book lovers.
