Description
Mama Mia is an ongoing grant program of the Bürgerstiftung Erlangen that supports single parents and families throughout the Erlangen area and the surrounding communities. It enables the arrangement and cost coverage of flexible childcare during off-peak hours – early mornings, evenings, or emergencies – as well as participation in open children’s afternoons (each Thursday and Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.). Furthermore, tutoring and musical instrument lessons are financially supported, and (re)entry into school education or professional life is accompanied. The goal is to bridge time constraints, improve academic performance, and sustainably strengthen professional prospects.
Eligible for funding are all single parents as well as families facing financial or time-related hardships with primary residence in Erlangen or one of the surrounding communities such as Buckenhof, Spardorf, and Möhrendorf. Applications can be submitted at any time; the application requires an email registration including the child’s full name, age, and allergies, as well as the name and phone number of the legal guardians and the desired care period. Specifically funded are expenses for off-peak childcare, children’s afternoons, tutoring, instrumental lessons, and support services for entry into education and employment. The Bürgerstiftung pools private donations and endowments to provide rapid and unbureaucratic relief to families in need and to strengthen their independence in the long term.
