Eligible to apply are companies from the commercial sector, universities, and non-university research institutions that engage in a regional consortium. A written cooperation agreement among all partners and the location of all consortium partners in the Rhenish Mining Area are prerequisites. The project duration is designed for up to 36 months, and applications can be submitted at any time in an ongoing procedure via the electronic application system easy-Online.
The program aims at a sustainable, innovation-based structural transformation in a formerly coal-dominated region. Consortia consisting of at least one company from the commercial sector and one scientific partner are funded, working together to develop new technological solutions and business models. The scope of the project must be within the Rhenish Mining Area, while the results may be utilized in Germany, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland. For the application, a sketch is required in the first procedural stage, a complete concept in the second stage, as well as the formal funding application and a cooperation agreement. Interested institutions benefit from comprehensive support by the project management agency Jülich (PtJ) and can thus flexibly prepare for the challenges of structural transformation.
