Description

Since 2016, the interactive traveling exhibition MatheMagie has been inviting curious visitors to explore mathematical phenomena themselves and discover mathematics in everyday life. On six thematically color-coded islands, 45 exhibits await, playfully encouraging experimentation, puzzling, and research. The stations illustrate how mathematics is effective in areas such as traffic flows, music, or daily routines. Families, school classes, and interested laypersons alike benefit from the cross-generational design, while brief, clearly prepared background information provides additional insight into the theory. The compact presentation not only fosters individual curiosity but also strengthens science communication through self-directed experimentation and creative approaches to mathematics.

This innovative educational offering is funded by the Stiftung Rechnen, which advocates nationwide and across Europe for the popularization of mathematical content. The traveling exhibition is aimed at non-profit organizations and can be continuously applied for to inspire both young and old at changing locations such as shopping centers or public institutions. As non-monetary support, Stiftung Rechnen offers organizational and content-related guidance to ensure sustainable knowledge acquisition as well as enjoyment of mathematical thinking. Institutions from the educational sector and researchers are encouraged to anchor the MatheMagie exhibition within their sphere of influence, thereby creating an inspiring space for informal learning.
