Description

Since 2024, the Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. has been opening a unique space for artistic and cultural initiatives and individual projects in the listed Millerntorwache in the heart of Hamburg. Within this historic setting, cultural creators, initiatives, and artists can realize exhibitions, performances, workshops, or discourse formats. The venue serves as a public forum and meeting place to make the cultural diversity of the urban society visible. A monthly budget of up to €1,000 is available for materials, fees, and supplies. Equipment such as chairs, sound system, hanging systems, and a kettle are provided on site. The project duration can vary between one and three months and depends on the submitted time and usage concept.

To apply, submission of a written concept including a time, usage, and cost plan is required. This concept will be evaluated based on its capacity for discourse, relevance to Hamburg’s urban society, and feasibility within the available funds. A contractual usage agreement as well as strict adherence to heritage preservation requirements and ethical standards are prerequisites. Economic interests, particularly the sale of food and beverages, are excluded. Usage can be applied for continuously: the application form, concept description, and time, usage, and cost plan are available on the Foundation’s website. For questions, the program managers of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. are available. Upon positive review, applicants receive independent access and autonomously organize opening hours of at least three days per week. This funding format is aimed at all those who wish to enliven the historic site with creative ideas.
