Description

The initiative “Riding Better with SAFETY” by the German Equestrian Sports Foundation sustainably promotes safety in eventing nationwide. Targeted efforts focus on testing and disseminating deformable cross-country obstacles to significantly reduce rotational falls and horse falls. Additionally, funds are allocated to research and innovation to develop new equipment and test it in practical settings. In parallel, training and continuing education offerings are implemented: from safety training with innovative teaching aids such as Rock-on-Ruby, to specialized fall training, to expertly supervised Safety Days. Medical emergency preparedness at competitions is strengthened through targeted equipment and training, optimizing response times in critical situations. Initial evaluations demonstrate a 55% reduction in the risk of rotational falls and a 53% decrease in horse fall rates compared to previous periods.

Eligible for funding are non-profit clubs and interest groups in Germany, particularly eventing riders, course designers, riding clubs, and organizers of eventing competitions. Applications require a cross-country course sketch with marked obstacle locations as well as proof of engagement with FEI recommendations. Funding covers acquisitions and measures in the areas of deformable obstacles, training and safety instruction, research and development, as well as medical emergency preparedness. Decision criteria include, among others, frequency of use, the quality of obstacle locations, and comprehensive documentation of their deployment. Submissions are accepted at any time via the official application form, ensuring continuous advancement of safety standards in eventing.
