Secondary School Support

In Carinthia, the city of Villach supports socially disadvantaged students at upper secondary schools up to the Matura with a two-tiered allowance: from the 10th grade onwards, a student allowance is granted, and from the 9th grade onwards, a boarding allowance is provided. This funding is given as a non-repayable grant and aims to enable equitable educational opportunities. The Education Department of the city of Villach is responsible for implementation and specifically targets young people whose financial situation makes education difficult. The support for middle school covers expenses related to attending school and promotes a stable learning environment.

Eligible are students with their main residence in Villach who attend a general or vocational upper secondary school, a state academy for social professions, a childcare training program, or a tourism school. The prerequisite is a family net income (excluding family allowance) of less than €1,215, plus €176 for each additional family member without independent income, as well as a grade point average of no more than 2.8. The funding applies exclusively to the first educational pathway and requires submission of the last annual report card as well as proof of monthly or annual income. Applications must be submitted annually by October 15. The amount of the allowance is based on the number of dependents and the available budgetary resources.
