Description

The Musical Instrument Fund of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony grants talented young musicians from Saxony access to precious master instruments and supports them on their path to a professional career. Since its establishment in 2000, the collection of historical and modern instruments has steadily grown, ranging from selected violins to harpsichords and saxophones. Over an initial loan period of 36 months—with the option to extend by a further 24 months—the program enables graduates and students of Saxon music universities, members of the Saxony State Youth Orchestra, as well as outstanding prizewinners of youth music competitions such as "Jugend musiziert," to refine their artistry on an exceptional instrument. The aim is to facilitate entry into a professional music career while simultaneously showcasing the traditional art of instrument making in the Free State.

As a continuously funded grant program, the Fund is exclusively aimed at private individuals who demonstrate musical talent and commitment. Applications can be submitted at any time without a fixed deadline. In addition to the free provision of the instrument, scholarship holders benefit from close support by experts from the Cultural Foundation and a network of mentors that promotes exchange among like-minded talents. Interested musicians from Saxony meet the formal requirements if they are enrolled as graduates or students at a Saxon music university or can demonstrate membership in the State Youth Orchestra or prizewinning status in "Jugend musiziert." With the Musical Instrument Fund, a valuable bridge is thus created between outstanding craftsmanship and artistic excellence.
