Description
The Music Education Award of the City of Duisburg, in conjunction with the Köhler-Osbahr Foundation, has annually honored outstanding achievements in music education within Duisburg since 1999. With an endowment of €2,500, the award recognizes individuals who set special accents through continuous artistic-music educational work, innovative teaching formats, as well as music education research or teaching activities. The jury consists of representatives from the Köhler-Osbahr Foundation, the Folkwang University of the Arts, the Cultural Committee of the City of Duisburg, and the School Music Association, and evaluates applications according to strict criteria, including scientific contributions in the field of music education and creative project concepts.
Proposals for the award can be submitted until April 30, 2026 to the Department of Education, Labor, and Social Affairs of the City of Duisburg. A justified proposal is required, including information about the institution, the head of the institution, as well as address, telephone, and email. Submissions can be made by post or electronically via the responsible department at Rathaus Burgplatz 19, 47051 Duisburg. The formal award ceremony will take place on July 5, 2026, in the opera foyer of the Duisburg Theater as part of a laureates’ concert. This prestigious funding award supports and motivates music educators to expand their commitment to child and youth development and to further profile Duisburg as a center of innovative sound mediation.
