Description

The thematic fund EXPERIENCE – UNDERSTAND – PROTECT NATURE of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg supports non-profit organizations, associations, educational institutions, and social agencies based in Hamburg in the implementation of project-related environmental education and nature conservation initiatives. Projects are funded that raise awareness of nature experiences among people of all ages – especially target groups growing up with little contact to nature, youth, seniors, and migrants – convey knowledge of ecological interrelationships, and stimulate sustainable engagement. Projects related to climate protection, biodiversity in urban nature, sustainable consumption, or sustainable mobility may be submitted. The funding amount is up to €5,000 per project, with a maximum duration of twelve months. Personnel costs and material expenses are eligible costs, while one-off action days, campaigns, or ongoing administrative costs are excluded. Prerequisites for a positive evaluation include, among others, proven experience of the project management in the environmental or nature conservation sector, a concrete connection to the target group, and a comprehensible financing plan.

Interested parties are advised to seek preliminary consultation through the Engagement Dock of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg to coordinate the project outline and funding criteria. Currently, applications cannot be submitted; the next deadlines will be announced on the BürgerStiftung Hamburg website. A complete application includes the completed application form, the funding guidelines, a detailed project description, and a financing plan. Selection is made by a voluntary committee that evaluates criteria such as participant involvement, sustainability of the concept, and openness to exchange of experiences. The goal is to set impulses for practical environmental and nature conservation in all Hamburg districts and to empower participants to become active shapers of sustainable urban development.
