Description
The EU program for promoting journalistic partnerships aims to sustainably strengthen the diversity and independence of the media landscape within the European Union. Through a regranting scheme, up to €6,900,000 is made available to support non-profit organizations, businesses, and public institutions in local, regional, and investigative news sectors. Applicants must be legal entities established in an EU Member State and demonstrate their financial and operational capacity. 100% of eligible costs – including funds passed on to third parties and project administration – can be financed. Relevance, effectiveness of the scheme, geographic coverage, as well as clear, measurable target indicators constitute the central evaluation criteria. With a deadline of 4 February 2026, interested parties have sufficient time to submit the Standard Application Form including the declaration on standards and independence.
The focus is on funding mechanisms that specifically support local and regional media, independent investigative platforms, and public outreach actors. At least 60% of the grant must flow directly to news media and journalists to innovatively develop content and formats, improve distribution and reach, and promote community building. Accompanying activities such as training, legal advice, or the development of governance standards may be conducted additionally. The objective is to revitalize democratic debates in areas with underserved media markets or “media deserts,” secure the role of the media as a watchdog, and ensure diversified public opinion formation. Project start is no earlier than 1 November 2026.
