Description

The Emergency Fund for Old Age and Care of the Caritas Community Foundation in the Archdiocese of Berlin continuously provides financial individual assistance for needy persons aged 60 and over in Berlin who, due to their physical, mental, or emotional condition or a material hardship, are unable to cover their own care and living expenses. Non-profit organizations and Caritas counseling centers may submit applications at any time and verify whether applicants have been employed for at least 25 years, earn an income no more than 20% above the current SGB II standard rate, and possess assets not exceeding the basic allowance according to § 12 SGB II. Applications are submitted easily through a local Caritas counseling center or another non-profit institution.

Funding is provided, among other things, for home care services, deployment of necessary care personnel, replacement of defective household appliances, as well as back payments for energy and operating costs, provided these expenses are not covered by public authorities or insurance. In the decision-making process, the urgency of the individual hardship and the exclusion of alternative funding sources play a central role. For the application, a valid application form, pension notices, proof of monthly income and expenses, and an asset overview are required. Through this needs-based funding offer, the Caritas Community Foundation helps to alleviate old-age poverty and enables those affected to live a dignified life in retirement.
