ÖBVSG - Austrian Library Network and Service GmbH

The ÖBVSG funding supports the operational maintenance and expansion of the nationwide electronic library network of universities in Austria. This direct funding in the form of a grant is aimed at public institutions, specifically universities with their libraries, which are legally required to participate. Since January 1, 2013, applications can be submitted independently of deadlines, ensuring flexible and permanent support of the network structure. The annual budget amounts to approximately 1.72 million euros and exclusively covers the operating costs of the library network.

With the funding objective to strengthen the sustainable networking of academic libraries and thereby improve access to scientific information, the program makes an important contribution to the promotion of science, research, and innovation. By financially securing expenses for technical infrastructure, licenses, and services, smooth usage by students, researchers, and teaching staff is enabled. The managing authority at the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research monitors the use of funds based on the relevant legal provisions (Federal Law Gazette I No. 15/2002) and ensures transparent processing. This continuous funding creates long-term awareness of the importance of efficient library networks and contributes to the broad public perception of science and the arts.
