Description

The "Local Traffic Safety Actions of Municipalities" in North Rhine-Westphalia promote creative and non-investive measures to improve traffic safety on site. As a fixed-amount funding, the state of NRW supports cities, municipalities, and districts with a grant of up to 80% of eligible expenses, requiring a minimum own contribution of 20%. Eligible costs include material expenses for actions, giveaways within the framework of events, as well as other non-investive action costs. Investive measures, personnel costs, and concepts are excluded. The demand notification is submitted at the beginning of the year to the Arnsberg District Government; after the allocation of budget funds in spring, the official funding application can be submitted.

This program enables municipal actors to implement innovative traffic safety campaigns – from bicycle courses and school route checks to media-effective actions or quiz formats. The funding guidelines for local mobility (FöRi-Nah) and networked mobility management (FöRi-MM) are to be applied primarily. Giveaways may account for a maximum of 20% of total costs; the own contribution can alternatively be covered by sponsorship funds. Eligible to apply are all public institutions based in North Rhine-Westphalia. Essential documents include the annual demand notification and the completed application form (Template 1). The grant notices are issued by the Arnsberg District Government. Municipal planning and traffic professionals thus receive a solid financial basis to actively advance Vision Zero in the municipalities and sustainably reduce accident numbers.
