The free online idea check offered by the Ideenfabrik Foundation in the district of Sigmaringen is aimed at inventors, founders, and start-ups in Baden-Württemberg who wish to have their innovations assessed for success potential and protectability. Interested parties simply fill out the online form and submit a brief description of their idea or invention. This is followed by a binding initial consultation, during which the protection of intellectual property is ensured through a confidentiality agreement. Based on this, experts analyze the innovation potential and market opportunities and evaluate the eligible technical and administrative requirements. For promising developments, the foundation covers the costs of patent applications upon request and supports the further implementation process.

The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant and can be applied for by start-ups, companies, and private individuals – applications are possible at any time. Eligible expenses include, in addition to patent application costs, consulting services as well as technical and administrative support. Selection is based on the criteria of innovation potential, market opportunities, and protectability.
