Description
The training course “Taking a Stand – Remaining Capable of Action: Self-Understanding and Attitude in Memorial Education” is aimed at multipliers active in memorial work, as well as in school-based and extracurricular historical-political education. From February 27 to March 1, 2026, at the European Youth Education and Meeting Centre Weimar, methods for reflecting on one’s own motives and pedagogical positions will be taught. Based on the concept of “Unsettling Places,” participants will engage with current challenges: How can right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic attacks as well as historical revisionism be addressed in learning settings? Through interactive exercises and expert discussions, societal changes will be analyzed, spaces for reflection and action opened, and strategies developed to strengthen democratic core values. Collaboration with the Fritz Bauer Institute Frankfurt am Main and recognition as teacher training by the Hessian Teacher Academy deepen the professional embedding.
The offer is directed at memorial site staff, teachers of all disciplines, and extracurricular multipliers interested in conveying the history of National Socialism. The participation fee of EUR 260 (reduced EUR 210) includes full board and accommodation in a double room. Registration is possible only via the online form until February 6, 2026; required documents are the EJBW’s terms and conditions and the privacy policy. With a targeted focus on individual attitude and collective responsibility, this training promotes the self-understanding of educational actors and strengthens their competence to advocate for diversity and historical truth in challenging situations.
