Description

Since 2016, the nationally announced “Humboldt University Prize for Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Medieval History” has honored exceptional research accomplishments in the discipline of history. Endowed by the Michael and Claudia Borgolte Foundation for the Promotion of Historical Sciences, the award is endowed with €10,000 and is aimed at scholars who open new perspectives on the Middle Ages through innovative monographs, habilitation theses, or publications. A prerequisite for submission is proof of scientific excellence demonstrated by relevant publications or a completed habilitation thesis. The evaluation focuses on originality, methodological depth, and the scholarly relevance to medieval studies.

An international jury of experts selects the laureates in a two-stage process, whose work provides significant impulses for the field. Application documents include a brief application, curriculum vitae, publication records, as well as the work sample or habilitation thesis. Through the generous funding amount, the prize makes a valuable contribution to the recognition and visibility of excellent medieval historical research in Germany and simultaneously strengthens early-career researchers. Interested historians can find comprehensive information on the call for applications and the required documentation on the website of the Michael and Claudia Borgolte Foundation.
