Description
The Carinthian State Government honors outstanding artistic and scientific achievements in the state of Carinthia with awards in accordance with § 11 paragraphs 1–3 of the Carinthian Cultural Promotion Act. Each year, a significant Cultural Prize is awarded for an impressive lifetime achievement, complemented by two Recognition Awards for exceptional merits – including a special architecture prize – as well as eight Promotional Awards for young talents under the age of 40. The awards cover the fields of visual and performing arts, electronic media, photography and film, literature, music, folk culture, humanities and social sciences, as well as natural and technical sciences. The aim is to strengthen Carinthia’s cultural diversity and scientific innovation and to achieve a balanced ratio of female and male awardees in each legislative period.
Eligible applicants are natural and legal persons with a significant connection to Carinthia – either by place of birth or activity, or through outstanding work-related ties. The jury of the Carinthian Cultural Committee decides based on substantiated proposals and applications. For the Promotional Awards, the age limit is under 40 years; for the Recognition Awards, a minimum age of 40 years applies; and the Cultural Prize honors a mature overall body of work. Submissions are possible annually, with deadlines published on the Culture Channel. Department 14 – Arts and Culture in the Office of the Carinthian State Government accompanies the process professionally and legally, provides further information on categories, deadlines, and formal requirements, and supports the digital application process.
