Description
The fifth project call of the federal program KlimaRäume by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development is aimed at municipal authorities throughout Germany that wish to implement investment and investment-preparatory measures for climate adaptation. Cities and municipalities are invited to submit a project outline by June 30, 2026, focusing on nature-based, blue-green infrastructure. Projects that contribute through greening and water area concepts to making urban and rural areas more resilient to heat, drought, heavy rainfall, and flooding will be funded. Submission is made in the form of a technically evaluated outline; selected municipalities will be invited to submit a funding application.
Eligible are public institutions, especially cities and municipalities, that can demonstrably prove responsibility for municipal climate adaptation tasks. The grant funding can be used for measures such as creating green recreational areas, revitalizing water bodies, rainwater management, or preparing construction projects. The goal is to preserve the vitality of green and open spaces, optimize water regulation, and strengthen CO₂ sinks. The project start of the fifth tranche is April 1, 2026, with an application deadline of June 30, 2026. Interested municipalities can submit their project outline to the BBSR within the deadline and thus contribute to the climate-resilient development of their settlement areas.
