Description
Since 2010, the Archaeology Funding Foundation in Baden-Württemberg has supported archaeological research and presentation projects in the state, particularly where public or municipal funds are insufficient. The focus is on scientific evaluations, publications, excavations, exhibitions, as well as conferences and events with a model character. Each year, the board decides on project applications that have not yet commenced and offer a sustainable added value for the state archaeology. The foundation provides grants to private individuals, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public bodies based in Baden-Württemberg that demonstrably pursue archaeological-scientific objectives in advance.
To apply, an informal project outline must be submitted by February 15 of each year. In addition to the requested funding amount, the submission must include a brief project description (maximum two pages), information on participants and timeframe, as well as a detailed financial plan with cost estimates and proof of planned third-party funding. Evaluation criteria are the scientific added value, urgency due to lack of public funds, the model character of the project, and the sustainability of the results’ utilization. Upon completion of the project, appropriate use of the funds must be demonstrated. The funding foundation prefers seed financing and pilot projects that sustainably revitalize the cultural heritage of Baden-Württemberg and make it accessible to a broad public.
