The foundation supports initiatives in fields such as human medicine, biomedicine, nursing sciences, medical technology, biotechnology, and hospital management with a clear non-profit mission. A prerequisite is that the applicants are based in the Free State of Saxony and that the submitting institution holds recognized tax-exempt non-profit status.
Funding is project-related and limited to a maximum duration of 24 months, with a funding amount of up to €150,000 (max. 85% of total costs) possible. Application documents include, among others, a cover sheet, a lay summary, a brief justification (up to three pages), a detailed project justification, and a detailed financial plan. Eligible expenses include personnel costs, equipment costs, general operating costs, and other expenses such as travel costs; investments for basic equipment and projects with commercial objectives are excluded from funding. Evaluation is conducted by expert reviewers and the foundation’s board. To be considered, applications must be submitted by April 30 each year, with the next deadline on April 30, 2026. The Roland Ernst Foundation expects economical use of funds and binding proof of use upon project completion.
