Description

The German Rheumatism Foundation awards three prizes of €10,000 each as part of the "Project Prize 2026" for outstanding research and care projects in rheumatology. Funding is provided for basic and health services research projects that deepen the understanding of inflammatory rheumatic diseases, place greater focus on the needs of those affected, and sustainably improve the perception of rheumatic diseases in science and the public. Applicants may be individuals or educational institutions from across Germany. One prize is specifically aimed at participatory research approaches with intensive involvement of patients. It is important that the submitted project idea is not simultaneously being considered for funding elsewhere. Applications must include a CV, a project or research outline including a budget (maximum five DIN A4 pages), and a list of scientific publications and conference contributions, all to be submitted by email. The deadline for complete applications is May 31, 2026.

The selection of awardees is based on the degree of innovation, scientific relevance, and patient participation throughout the project. The awarded concepts will be presented on the eve of the German Rheumatism League’s delegates’ assembly in Berlin. The prize money is endowed by the Edelgard & Diethelm Fuß Foundation; additional funding is provided by the German Rheumatism Foundation. Through this prize program, the foundation aims to motivate researchers and interdisciplinary project teams to develop novel approaches in rheumatology and thereby significantly advance the care of people with rheumatic diseases.
