Description
The Berdelle Foundation for Science, Culture, and Technology supports qualified doctoral candidates in the natural sciences and engineering nationwide, particularly in mechanical engineering, medical and biotechnology, with doctoral scholarships. Funding is provided for a period of up to 24 months with a monthly base amount of up to €1,750 (from October 2025), supplemented by a flat-rate research expense allowance. In addition, purpose-specific grants for travel expenses, materials, printing cost subsidies, as well as health insurance, family, and child allowances can be applied for. Dissertation projects in pump, fluid, and conveying technology are especially welcomed. Applications are possible on May 1 and November 1 each year and are aimed at doctoral candidates at public or state-recognized German universities who meet the nationality requirements of § 8 BAföG and have not yet received other funding for the same doctoral period.
For the application, a completed online application form, a detailed exposé, a tabular CV, certificates of the degree qualifying for the doctoral procedure, as well as informal assessments from two habilitated university professors must be submitted. When applying for a printing cost subsidy, publishing documents, manuscript, and doctoral certificate are additionally required. The expert committee decides based on professional qualification, scientific relevance of the project, and focus. The goal is the targeted promotion of young researchers to realize innovative research projects and strengthen professional training.
