Description

The Queer Project Funding of the Federal Magnus Hirschfeld Foundation is aimed at individuals, non-profit institutions, educational establishments, and companies based in Germany that are engaged in the fields of social cohesion, education, research, culture, labor, and social affairs. With annual grants, the foundation supports external projects that address queer living environments, anti-discrimination, as well as research and commemorative culture. Projects that align with the foundation’s objectives and particularly advance educational, research, and memorial work for LGBTIQ* persons are funded. A prerequisite for application is timely submission by December 31 and compliance with formal funding guidelines, such as a coherent project description, a comprehensible financial plan, and – if personnel funds are requested – proof of the qualifications of the participants.

Within the framework of the current funding focus “TIN – Trans, Inter, and Non-binarity” for 2026–2027, projects that deal with the development and transformation of non-binary gender categories as well as the historical and current experiences of discrimination faced by TIN* persons will be given preferential consideration. The Federal Foundation subsidizes printing costs, personnel expenses, fees, and material costs; excluded are construction projects, technical acquisitions, or catering. The application documents include the official application form, a brief description of the project sponsor, a detailed project description, a financial plan, and, if applicable, proof of qualifications. After professional review by the expert advisory board and decision by the board of trustees, funding notifications are sent out in the fourth quarter of the following year. The funding aims to develop nationwide model character, consider intersectionality, and sustainably strengthen the social participation of LGBTIQ* persons.
