Rehabilitation Allowance

The rehabilitation allowance in Vienna supports privately insured individuals who are unable to work due to a formally determined temporary disability or occupational incapacity. During the period of confirmed incapacity to work, a regular monetary benefit is granted in the amount of the last entitled sickness benefit or at least the standard rate of the supplementary allowance. This support aims to secure the income of those affected and thus alleviate social and health-related burdens. The minimum entitlement applies subject to lawful, habitual residence in the country and is granted indefinitely – applications can be submitted at any time.

A prerequisite for receiving the benefit is a disability confirmed by the pension insurance provider expected to last at least six months, as well as habitual residence in Austria. The entitlement to benefits is granted by a decision of the pension insurance provider and paid out by the health insurance provider, which also manages the case management. For the application, an informal request must be submitted to the pension insurance provider along with the corresponding decision on the disability determination. Since there is no application deadline, eligible individuals benefit immediately from continuous income security.
