Description
Travel cost subsidies for scientists from Styria provide early research careers with valuable support for active participation in international conferences, symposia, and research stays. Eligible to apply are private individuals with their main residence in Styria who have begun a doctoral program or are within the first four years after completing their dissertation and are employed at a Styrian university or a non-profit extramural research institution. Up to three approvals are possible per funding recipient, with funding exclusively granted for international travel. The subsidies cover travel expenses, conference fees, and hotel costs and amount to up to €7,500 per submission period. If the number of applications exceeds the available budget, priority is given based on the order of timely receipt. Submissions are accepted four times a year during the periods January 1 to March 31, April 1 to June 30, July 1 to September 30, and October 1 to December 31.
To apply, a completed application form as well as proof of active participation (presentation/poster), program invitations, financing plan, enrollment certificate, letter of endorsement from the institute management, employment contract or proof of non-profit status, and registration certificate are required. After the research stay is completed, proper use of the funds must be documented with receipts. The processing is handled by Department 12 – Economy, Tourism, Science and Research of the Styrian Provincial Government, whose individual decision forms the legal basis. This funding instrument strengthens international academic mobility and reciprocal knowledge transfer by facilitating access for Styrian early-career researchers to global networks and events.
