Description

The German AIDS Foundation enables nationwide funded breaks for people living with HIV through the Travel Participation (Group Travel) program. These breaks are intended for individuals who, due to physical or psychological limitations as well as financial need, can hardly travel alone. The goal is to counteract social isolation and strengthen psychosocial participation. The trips are organized by qualified counseling centers, which professionally support the participants and promote exchange in a protected environment. Both travel and accommodation costs are funded – exclusively for travel expenses incurred after the application is submitted. In this way, the program opens up new encounters, strengthens self-confidence, and provides space for exchanging experiences about HIV/AIDS in a supportive group atmosphere.

Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations that demonstrably organize group trips for socially isolated, financially needy (citizen’s allowance/social assistance level), and HIV-positive individuals. An anonymous application must be submitted for each traveling person, supplemented by a project description including the travel plan, timeframe, and destination, as well as a detailed cost and financing breakdown. Financial need and demonstrated necessity are decisive to substantiate the social benefit of the trip. Applications can be submitted informally at any time – counseling centers preferably use the general application form or the specific form for travel participation. In this way, the Foundation sustainably contributes to improving the quality of life and social participation of people living with HIV.
