Description
Since 2002, the residency program of the Choreographic Center NRW in Essen has offered international artists and cultural practitioners the opportunity to develop creative processes in a professional environment. For periods of three to six weeks, spacious studios (69–173 m²), barrier-free workspaces, as well as technical equipment and support are available. Complemented by rehearsal rooms, Wi-Fi, and a communal kitchen, participants can develop their independent project ideas in a focused manner. A weekly stipend for up to four persons, travel expense reimbursement for arrival and departure, and free accommodation create optimal conditions to advance interdisciplinary artistic productions. The selection takes place twice a year through an open call by an internationally composed jury.
In connection with the areas of stage, PACT·LAB, and urban space, a lively exchange between theory and practice emerges. Even without a public performance, the focus is on the working process and allows for an internal showing as a platform for reflection. Applications require proof of professional artist status and an independent project idea. Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW, the program ensures long-term creative freedom for dance, performance, media art, music, and interdisciplinary research. Application deadlines and further details on the procedure can be found on the website, where interested parties can submit their documents twice a year to realize an intensive residency experience at Zollverein.
