Description

The guideline for the promotion of animal welfare measures by animal welfare associations supports non-profit organizations and foundations based in Brandenburg in neutering projects for free-roaming stray cats. The goal is to curb uncontrolled reproduction through sterilization and neutering procedures and thereby reduce the suffering of feral cats. Funding is provided for veterinary neutering and sterilization, microchip identification, as well as registration in a recognized pet registry. Up to €150 can be applied for each female cat, and up to €70 for each male cat. Each animal to be neutered must be found within the state of Brandenburg and treated by veterinarians. 24-hour monitoring of the awakened cats, separate housing, as well as proof of non-profit status, statutes, extract from the register of associations, and creditworthiness verification are mandatory.

Applications for the funding year 2026 can be submitted in writing by March 31, 2026, and for the following year by December 30, 2026, to the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg (ILB), Babelsberger Straße 21, 14473 Potsdam. Approval is granted in the order of receipt, provided budget funds are available. A verifiable proof of use with a factual report and list of receipts must be submitted regarding the use of funds. Verified own funds are required if treatment costs exceed the specified maximum amounts. The funded cats must be released back into their original habitat after the procedure. Applications from organizations based outside Brandenburg, private or state institutions, as well as follow-up treatments of already neutered animals, are excluded. Further details on the funding guideline and the required documents can be requested from the ILB.
