Description
The funding guideline for the elucidation of unresolved cases in rare genetic and non-genetic diseases within the framework of the European Partnership ERDERA supports transnational and multidisciplinary research consortia. The goal is to identify causal variants in patients without an existing molecular diagnosis and to develop innovative tools for diagnostics and therapy. Applicants must involve at least four partners from four different countries, including university and non-university institutions, SMEs, or non-profit organizations. Patient partners must be actively involved according to FAIR principles, and a written cooperation agreement is required. The funding guideline targets consortia investigating complex rare diseases—of genetic or non-genetic origin. Interventional clinical studies, projects on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, as well as rare infectious diseases and cancer types are excluded.
Personnel costs, material and travel expenses, as well as investments, are funded for a project duration of up to 36 months with a funding rate of 50 to 100%. The funding is provided as a non-repayable grant. Submission of the concept note is possible online via the ERDERA platform until 12.02.2026, 2 p.m. (CET). Following positive evaluation, comprehensive full proposals must be submitted by 08.07.2026. Evaluation criteria include innovation content, excellence, application and exploitation strategy, quality of implementation, patient involvement, as well as transnationality and complementarity of partners. The BMBF, together with the DLR Project Management Agency, accompanies the process and prepares for the rapid implementation of promising results.
