Description

The RISA funding for rainwater cisterns from the Authority for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture in Hamburg supports owners and leaseholders of residential and non-residential buildings, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as other organizations in the acquisition and professional installation of aboveground or underground rainwater storage tanks starting from 2,000 liters. With the non-repayable grant, gardens and green spaces can be irrigated according to demand, drinking water resources conserved, and urban climate adaptation measures strengthened. By integrating a rainwater storage tank, precipitation from roofs and paved surfaces is collected, stored, and made available as a supplementary water source during dry periods – an important contribution to environmental and nature conservation in urban areas.

Up to 40% of eligible expenses are funded, with a maximum of €1,500 for private individuals, or up to 30%, up to €3,000 for companies and other organizations. Only measures on developed properties that are voluntarily implemented and applied for before the start of the project via the eApplication portal of the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) are eligible. Costs considered include the purchase of the cistern, installation including earthworks, and the installation of a backflow preventer. A connection to precipitation-relevant surfaces and the exclusive use of uncontaminated rainwater are prerequisites. The complete submission of all documents – including proof of ownership, site plan, and offer or cost estimate – must be made no later than three months after project commencement. After a review period of one to two weeks, approved projects can be initiated, enabling a quick and efficient contribution to climate protection in Hamburg.
