Description

The German Shakespeare Foundation annually awards, in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, two graduate scholarships for outstanding doctoral candidates in the Early Modern period. The funding supports research stays of two to three months in Weimar, enabling intensive work with the unique collections of the Klassik Stiftung. The focus is on interdisciplinary and comparative projects related to theater and literature, especially Shakespeare studies, the Baroque period, and reception processes up to the present day. Each grant amounts to up to €2,000 per month and includes free admission to all facilities of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar as well as assistance in finding accommodation. The scholarship is exempt from income tax and social security contributions and offers doctoral candidates an excellent platform for academic exchange through colloquia and public lectures.

Eligible to apply are doctoral candidates with a demonstrated conceptual connection of their dissertation project to the holdings of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and an outstanding university degree. Evaluation criteria include the relevance to the collections, academic qualification, and the significance of the project for research. Applications must include: application form, short description (10–15 lines), detailed project description (5–6 pages), tabular CV with publication list and certificates, as well as a letter of recommendation from a university professor. The application deadline is January 31 each year, with decisions made in March. A final report documenting the research results and a lecture are required after the stay.
