Description

From 2021 onwards, the Federal Ministry of the Interior funds projects that make an effective contribution to the prevention and management of security-relevant issues. The focus is on strengthening psychological support as well as legal protection for asylum seekers, expanding specialized counseling and training services for return procedures, and improving reception and protection capacities in crisis regions. Funded measures include trauma management, case-related legal advice, and systematic country-of-origin research, as well as the development of multilateral partnerships and capacities for voluntary and forced return. Asylum seekers, including unaccompanied minor foreigners and victims of human trafficking, benefit from individually tailored support services, as do professionals from administration and security authorities through practical continuing education modules.

Only those cost elements that directly contribute to achieving the objectives are funded: personnel costs for involved specialists, project-related material expenses, rents, travel costs, and target group-oriented assistance. Project partners cooperate transparently with public and non-governmental entities, guarantee earmarked use of funds, and jointly assume responsibility for repayment in cases of funding irregularities. The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund covers 75% of the expenses, up to 90% for specific priorities. Own contributions and additional co-financing are encouraged. An evaluated use of these funds promotes social cohesion, improves procedural efficiency, and makes a sustainable contribution to alleviating the crisis where it originates: in Austria and the countries of origin of those seeking protection.
