Description
The Siebenpfeiffer Prize is awarded every two years to outstanding journalistic achievements that strengthen democratic awareness in the press, radio, and television. With an endowment of €10,000, the prize honors fearless commitment that is not motivated by professional advantages or financial considerations. The award is presented nationwide and applies to all formats in which media professionals address current social issues, thereby contributing to the strengthening of freedom of opinion and the press. An independent jury evaluates submissions as well as contributions proposed by third parties based on the quality of the publication, its impact on democratic discourse, and the independence of its authors.
Eligible to participate are journalists publishing in radio, TV, or print, as well as initiative groups and individuals wishing to nominate candidates. The award ceremony takes place in a formal setting and may be supplemented by special prizes. The objectives are to promote a critical public sphere and encourage courageous investigative journalism that explains social contexts, highlights grievances, and unlocks debates. The award ceremony is organized by the Siebenpfeiffer Foundation and provides an interregional platform for outstanding contributions. The commemoration of Philipp Jakob Siebenpfeiffer, a pioneer for press freedom, underscores the commitment to sustainably strengthen civil society engagement in journalistic practice.
