The Siegfried Schmitt Prize of the Darmstadt Sports Foundation has been honoring outstanding commitment by instructors and coaches in the children’s and youth sector of a sports club within the Darmstadt-Dieburg sports district since 1989. With a funding amount of up to €5,000, creative training concepts, continuous club work, and integrative measures are publicly recognized. The award aims to present role models and provide impulses for other clubs and initiatives. The jury and foundation focus on criteria such as degree of innovation, consistency in training work, introduction of new methods, motivational measures for young athletes, as well as the support of special children’s and youth groups.
Eligible for funding are private individuals who can demonstrate activity as an instructor or coach in a sports club based in Darmstadt or the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The prerequisite is the fulfillment of at least three defined criteria, including creativity, continuity, and assumption of club functions. Applications are to be submitted informally with a short biography, description of sporting activities, documentation of work, and a proposal for a laudator. Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2025. By recognizing exceptional achievements in regional sports, the Siegfried Schmitt Prize sends a clear signal for innovation, cohesion, and sustainable youth work in the sports landscape.
