Description
The Saxon State Media Authority (SLM) supports companies based in the Free State of Saxony in the simulcast distribution of commercial radio programs. The aim of the funding is to secure journalistic diversity in commercial radio by subsidizing the necessary costs for parallel analog-terrestrial and digital-terrestrial (DAB+) broadcasting at a minimum data rate of 80 kbit/s. The funding is provided in the form of a grant and covers both the regular distribution costs via Saxon transmitter sites as well as proportional signal feed costs up to the handover point of the transmitter network operator. By supporting dual transmission, the analog-to-digital transition is facilitated, as digital distribution often does not offer additional refinancing opportunities.
Funding is granted to organizers of commercial radio programs who broadcast their content identically both analog and digital terrestrially and simultaneously ensure self-financed promotion of digital reception. Applications can be submitted continuously; there is no fixed deadline. Prerequisites include proof of location in the Free State of Saxony, compliance with technical standards (minimum data rate 80 kbit/s), and submission of the completed application form as well as proof of use. The SLM reviews submitted documents for completeness and compliance with the funding guidelines. Through straightforward application procedures and continuous funding opportunities, this program contributes to sustainably strengthening and future-proofing local radio offerings in Saxony.
