Description

The Summer Academy for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Aid in Ulm offers a five-day intensive course from September 21 to 25, 2026, which prepares medical students from the 6th semester onwards, emergency service personnel, and licensed physicians in a practical manner for deployments in crisis regions. Under the patronage of renowned experts, the program is divided into two thematic focuses: three days of theory and practice in disaster medicine – including triage, leadership training, and decontamination – as well as two days covering the fundamentals of humanitarian aid with a focus on disaster assessment, camp management, and security. The curriculum is based on the “Concept for Disaster Medicine Education in Student Instruction at German Universities” and is conducted by experienced specialists. Certificates for 45 hours of coursework (elective credit at the University of Ulm, continuing education certificate according to RDG BW or LÄK points) enhance professional recognition.

The event is funded by the Foundation of the German Institute for Disaster Medicine gGmbH. Registration is via an online application form and requires a letter of motivation as well as, for students below the 6th semester, proof of relevant prior experience. Allocation of places is on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. The funding objective is to qualify committed participants in the field of disaster medicine and humanitarian aid. A participation fee applies; accommodation and travel must be arranged independently. The project duration is one month, and selection is made exclusively in the order of applications received.
