Description

The Erlangen Citizens' Foundation has established a special fund for seniors as a permanently available funding instrument, open to non-profit organizations and public institutions in Bavaria. The aim is to support older people in Erlangen as well as in the surrounding communities of Buckenhof, Spardorf, Uttenreuth, Marloffstein, Bubenreuth, Baiersdorf, Möhrendorf, and Heßdorf. Funding is provided for intergenerational meeting projects in which kindergarten children visit seniors in care homes during recurring project weeks, sharing breakfast, crafting, or singing together. In addition, established support services such as the AWO visiting service/citizens' bus, the Mobile Food Bank of the Diakonie, and the Dementia Center are financially supported. The thematic focus areas are social affairs, health, commitment to social cohesion, and work & social issues.

The special fund is intended as an incentive funding for sustainable concepts in the senior sector and welcomes innovative project ideas for intergenerational participation. Applications can be submitted at any time and are awarded as grants. Projects that strengthen the interaction between young and old and complement existing support services are given special consideration. The continuous awarding allows flexible planning and the implementation of long-term meeting formats. Seniors and kindergarten-aged children benefit equally from the activities, fostering valuable societal dialogue and promoting a sense of neighborhood belonging.
